What is a Data Source?

Data Sources are date feeds into Directory Manager from another system or from Directory Manager to Active Directory.

Sources in to Directory Manager are things like ESR, CSV and the DM Web portal.

Sources out from Directory Manager always go out to Active Directory and perform all updates to active directory such as creating new accounts or updating an account with information from ESR. Other sources can be set up independently from the main source to AD, these can do things like trigger a password reset under certain conditions or move a user back to a specific OU if they get moved by mistake. There are many possibilities.

Each Data source can be set to run off of its own schedule whether that is by the minute to once a month or they can be set to run sequentially one after another.

If you would like to set up a new Data Source, please contact the BDS Service Desk for assistance.
