What are the Services?

Directory Manager is made up of three windows services, they are as follows;

  1. BDS Directory Manager Input Service – This service imports data from data sources such as ESR and, if using Digital Directory, performs System Matching
  2. BDS Directory Manager Management Service – This service integrates with external systems to retrieve or apply data. For example it gets data from Active Directory and also applies updates to Active Directory. It also connects to NHSMail and Azure.
  3. BDS Directory Manager Notification Service – This service generates and sends notifications and reports via email and creates reports into shared folders.

The services are set up as Automatic Delayed and are usually run with the Directory Manager Service Account (DMSA) or equivalent.
