Adoption of Windows 10 to the required NHS standards remains a big challenge.
Implementing the required security standards, while operating a wide range of clinical applications, requires extensive testing and tuning to ensure a smooth transition for users. Trusts who have almost completed the transition to Windows 10 have found there are applications which simply cannot be supported and have retained Windows 7 until they can be replaced.
Any such systems remain at an increasingly high-security risk as we near January’s end of Extended Support for Windows 7 deadline.
NHS Digital has agreed a further 12 months extended support for any Trust actively deploying Windows 10 that has adopted a central advanced threat protection solution across their remaining Windows 7 estate. To request an Extended Support Unit, key eligible Trusts should contact software services company, Bytes.
The subsequent preparation of the required environment, management of the deployment and activation of the Extended Support Unit against all Windows 7 computers, is time-consuming and complex. However, BDS Solutions have developed a cost effective fixed price solution that can be fired either from Microsoft’s Group Policy Object (GPO) or System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM), automating the deployment of the Extended Support key.
