NHS Digital has recently launched a ‘Keep I.T. Confidential’ campaign providing a range of tools for Trusts to help raise awareness of cyber security among staff.
The focus is on patient safety and warnings include ‘tailgating’, when an unauthorised person follows someone into a secure NHS site, and social engineering, when individuals are manipulated into divulging sensitive information.
The campaign follows the roll out of new IT security services, including firewall, network intrusion detection, and web content filtering; all designed to prevent future cyber-attacks.
NHS cyber protection
Controlling access to IT systems is critical to effective cyber protection. Managing starters, leavers and movers swiftly and efficiently, across all systems, blocks access immediately to those who no longer have authorisation.
BDS Solutions’ Directory Manager is used in dozens of NHS organisations nationwide to ensure that data is automated between ESR, Active Directory and NHSmail. A record only needs to be updated once, eliminating the reliance on manual updates on multiple systems.
The automation of user accounts saves time and removes the need for multiple updates. Security is also improved by authorities being revoked as soon as an employee or contractor leaves the NHS.
