McAfee Device Control to replace Port Control in the NHS

22 May 2009

BDS Solutions are now implementing McAfee Device Control in NHS Trusts, replacing the Port Control product that has now been retired.

McAfee have announced that they will be withdrawing Port Control from its range of products. The 'end of sale' date for Port Control was on April 1st 2009, and the 'end of life' date will be June 30th 2010, when full service support for this product will also end. Please following this link for more information.

It is recommended that trusts who are currently running Port Control begin to take steps to migrate to McAfee Device Control.

McAfee Device Control and ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) licences and software are free to the NHS, and offer the following key advantages:

Unrivalled Protection
- Prevent data loss via unauthorised use of removable storage devices by providing control over specific devices

Comprehensive Device Management
- Specify detailed hardware and content-based filtering, monitoring and blocking of confidential data on any removable storage device
- Enable safe use of removable media devices - no need to 'block all' and hinder work productivity

ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) Centralised Management
- Leverage your McAfee security risk management platform to prevent data loss through removable storage devices
- Centrally deploy and manage security policy to prevent confidential data loss via removable media

Complete Visibility
- Prove internal and regulatory compliance measures to auditors, board members, and other stakeholders

BDS Solutions provide the expertise required to enable NHS organisations to successfully plan and deliver Device Control deployments.
