BDS embrace .NET 3.5
16 Feb 2009
Since the release of Visual Studio 2008 and the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, BDS Solutions' Development Services have begun to put the advancements these new tools bring to good use. The inclusion of the new Account Management and Data Entity frameworks are allowing developers to integrate solutions with Active Directory and SQL Server more quickly and effectively than ever.
These 2 major enhancements that .NET 3.5 SP1 introduces are rapidly changing the solution architecture being used and are the bedrock of a programme to extend the capabilities of the Integrated Directory Services suite. Using the Account Management framework accessing Active Directory as a data store and authentication mechanism, has been made much easier and is permitting greater flexibility including intrinsic support for ADAM (Active Directory Application Mode). With the Entity Framework, the reality of object relational modelling is truly beginning to payback in terms of the speed of development of database applications.
Nick Goodland, Microsoft Certified Professional Developer responsible for software development at BDS says "For many years, developers have been looking to improve timeframes for the development of data access layers in applications, whilst maintaining performance and adaptability. The Entity Framework is now permitting database schemas to be expressed as programmable objects with a couple of clicks, making the creation of quite complex database applications much more approachable. For BDS, who work with SQL Server and Active Directory extensively, these facilities combined with the new Account Management framework are rationalising the design of our products, freeing more time for us to focus on delivering functionality to our customers".
