Adding & Managing Data Sources

Enquiry Agent gets its data from directory sources. Currently supported directories are:

  • Exchange 55
  • Active Directory
  • NHSMail National Directory

Once connected, Enquiry Agent can display all the data on the directory or just a subset. The directory objects displayed are:

  • Contacts / External Recipients
  • Users
  • Distribution Lists

NOTE: Enquiry Agent uses LDAP protocol to connect to a directory.

Adding Data Sources

To add a new data source, click on the "Config" button on the toolbar:

Next click on the LDAP Sources tab:

Click in the "Allow manual LDAP configuration" checkbox. This is a safety check to ensure that any existing settings are not altered, or that any person altering these settings is sure about what they are doing. A message will be displayed, click OK after reading this:

Click "Add" to add a new source. Complete the following settings:

Name

Enter a meaningful name for this source. This will be the name you will be using in Enquiry Agent to select this source, so call it something meaningful.

Server

This is the name of the server holding the directory. This can be the network name or an IP address.

User

Enter a user name that will be used to authenticate access to the server. It is recommended that an account be created just for this purpose (e.g., ENQUser). This should have a password that never expires.

Password

The password for the above account.

Base

To limit the area of the directory Enquiry Agent references, enter an LDAP path here of the top-level directory folder to be displayed. If left blank the entire directory will be displayed.

Port

The LDAP port to be used by Enquiry Agent to access the directory.

Pagesize

The number of entries returned in each 'hit' to the directory.

Timeout

The time Enquiry Agent should wait for a response from the directory. After this time Enquiry Agent will cancel the request.

Distribution List Enabled

If selected, when emailing distribution lists, Enquiry Agent will add the actual distribution list email. If not selected, the individual recipient email addresses within the distribution list will be added instead.

Data Layering

If selected, Enquiry Agent will fetch all the 'layers' in a directory tree at once (i.e., display all the top level folders and all the sub folders). If not selected, only one layer of directory folders will be displayed.

Once this information is filled in, the priority of the data source can be changed. This is the order in which it is listed in the Folder view. To change the priority, use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons.

Deleting a Data Source

To delete a data source, select it from the source list and click "Delete". You will be prompted to confirm you wish to do this. Click "Yes" to delete the list.

Editing A Data Source

Once entered, changes can be made to existing sources for the above settings.

NOTE: When entering a new source, DO NOT overwrite an existing source. Instead click "Add" to explicitly add a new source.
