Match Freezing One of the biggest obstacles to the implementation of Directory Manager has been data matching, the linking of HR/ESR records to existing Active Directory (AD) accounts. By its nature, data matching is a complex process and completion of this has always been a necessary pre-requisite to using Directory Manager. To overcome this issue, new functionality was added to Directory Manager. This is known as "match freezing". The principle is to make use of data relationships that have been established, but to avoid creating duplicate accounts for those accounts that have not been matched. To apply match freezing, an unmatched HR/ESR data is stored in the database and is used as a reference. When Directory Manager has an ESR entry that is not matched on AD, it references the freeze table. If the entry is present in the table, a new account is not created on AD as it is deemed unmatched and existing at the time of implementation. If the entry is not present in the freeze table, then it is deemed a new starter and is created on AD. In this way the issue of duplicates is overcome and implementation of Directory Manager can be started is not impacted. Those users that have already been data matched will be updated as normal. As data matching continues after Directory Manager has been turned on, accounts that are matched will come "on line" and be managed by Directory Manager. The benefits of this approach are that:
NOTE: This Match Freezing functionality was added in version 1.9.0 of Directory Manager. Creating the freeze table is carried out using the Input File Viewer. |
