File Storage Management

Directory Manager provides the facility to automatically manage the file store. This is useful in preventing the size of these file stores becoming to large. Similarly, the database can also be managed for the same reason.

To open the File Storage Management Screen, click on the FileStore button on the toolbar.

File Storage Settings

Each time Directory Manager processes files, on completion it can delete action logs and processed files that are older than a given date. To use this feature select "Actively manage file storage" and enter a maximum age to keep these files.

When file storage management is turned on, both sets of files will be managed. It is not possible to only manage one set of files.

To run the file management manually, click the respective "Manual Purge" button and enter an age in days in the box provided.

Database Purge Settings

When processing files, various information is recorded in the database. This is used mostly for the Statistics Report. These records can also be removed when they reach a given date. To use this feature select "Actively manage database tables" and enter a maximum age to keep the records.

To run the database management manually, click the "Manual Purge" button and enter an age in days in the box provided.

To run the MS Access Compact and Repair utility on the Directory Manager database, click the "Compact DB" button. This will attempt to create a backup of the database and then call the utility.

Advanced - Low-level Application Log Settings

IMPORTANT - only alter these settings with guidance from BDS Solutions.

Directory Manager can optionally produce technical 'low-level' logging of all actions that take place. This is useful for BDS Solutions staff to investigate irregularities.

To turn on this logging select the "Turn on low-level application logging" and enter a path using the browse ellipsis (...) button.

These logs are archived each day. To delete old logs, enter a maximum age and click the "Purge Now" button.
