Creating Rules

To create a rule, follow these steps:

  • Click Add (or Action > Add). This will insert a new blank rule at the bottom of the rules table
  • Click in the Friendly Name field and type a name to identify the rule. It is recommended to use a name that relates to the filter value to be used by the rule.
  • Click in the value field (or use the Tab key) and then click on the ellipsis (…) (or press Space). This will open the Filter Value screen.

Select an attribute from the Field list (or use the keys to select a value). Next select an operator from the list. Finally, add a value for the attribute to match on. It is possible to add a number of filter values to a rule. Each filter will be AND’ed, meaning an entry must match on ALL the filter values to be processed by the rule.
  • Choose an output action for the rule. The options available are:

    • As a recipient in a directory. This will create a user object on the target directory. A directory browse window will be displayed to select the server and target OU.
    • As an entry in a CSV file. This will write the entries to a file. A file browser window will be displayed to choose the file to write to.
    • As an entry in a Novell Address Book.
    • To be excluded. Entries matching this rule will be completely ignored.
    • Custom Result String. This is only for use in specifically configured applications.

  • Select the Purge Type. Select which kind of purging will be applied to matching entries, or set to not use purging.
  • Set the Purge Days. If purging, enter the purge age in days. A default of 30 days is used.
  • Set the Template. If additional information is to be added to entries before they are created on a directory, add this to the template.
  • Set the Mail Store. Clicking the ellipsis (...) button will display all the available Exchange mailstores. Select the mailstore to hold the mailboxes for created users. If no mailstore is selected, the first mailstore alphabetically will be used.
  • Now move the rule up the rules table to ensure this rule has the right priority (if required).
