Searching

To find individual objects on a data source, use the name searching facility. This will search across the entire data source and display a list of matching objects. The required object can then be selected, viewed and edited.

NOTE: Searching only searches the currently selected data source. To search another data source, first switch to it in the Directory Browser pane and then run Search. The name of the data source to be searched is displayed in the form title.

Click on "Search" on the toolbar or go to Tools > Search to open the search form:

The above search form is displayed. Enter part of a name to search on. This can be any part of the objects name, e.g., full name, or just first or last name.

For directory sources, either only user objects, only contacts or both can be returned by the search. The normal value for this is Users.

Click "Find Name" to carry out the search.

When completed, all matching objects will be listed. Select the required object and then double-click or click "Open Record".

This will display the object in the Attributes panel and will also open the folder structure in the Directory Browser pane to show the location of the object. Only the searched for record will be listed in the Objects pane. To show all the records in the folder, refresh the folder view by clicking the folder name or by View > Refresh.

The object can be edited, saved and updated as per normal.

NOTE: The description field to be used can be specified in the data source configuration. See Add & Edit Data Sources for more information.

NOTE: If a filter is set in the data source, the both / users / contacts option will be hidden.
