Object Naming

By default, contact objects are named on the directory using the entry's Alias Name from the address book file. If no Alias Name is present then the Display Name is used instead, If neither of these is present then the entry is not created.

The Object Name option allows the Display Name to be used to name the object instead. The benefit of this is that the Display Name can be formatted in the rule template first, before being used to name the object.

When a rule is created, the Alias Name is automatically selected. This can be left unchanged if it is to be used. To use Display Name, select it from the Object Name drop-down box.

The object will be named according to the option selected.

NOTE: If Alias Name is selected and an entry does not have an Alias Name field, Contact Manager will attempt to use the Display Name.

WARNING: Contact Manager uses the object name when matching entries to existing objects. If this option is changed, entries already imported through Contact Manager may have a different object name to that being imported and hence will no longer be matched. These entries will then be marked as duplicate as the email address already exists on the directory.
